Leslie Ann Fox, MA, RHIA
Chief Executive Officer
Leslie
Ann Fox, MA, RHIA, is CEO of Care Communications, Inc. Since
co-founding Care Communications in 1976, Ms. Fox has directed
or participated in the development and presentation of over
30 seminars and publications on HIM department management
and quality management methodologies; directed the development
and marketing of a highly successful line of software for
ICD-9-CM and CPT coding and coding evaluation; and established CARE’s
medico-legal research support capability, providing medical abstraction
and coding services for medical research, law firms, insurance
companies, and survey research organizations. Most recently she
has overseen the development and implementation of Internet-based
remote coding technology that enables HIM departments and coding
services to address coder shortages.
In
addition to her expertise in Health Information Management, Ms.
Fox has studied and written extensively in the field of Bowen
Family Systems Theory, applying this well-developed theory of
human behavior to leadership and change management in organizations.
She continues to provide consultation in HIM, Leadership, Change
Management, and Systems Theory.
Ms.
Fox has been an active volunteer with the American Health Information
Management Association (AHIMA) for over 30 years. She is currently
representing AHIMA on the Personal Health Record Working Group
of the Markle Foundation’s “Connecting for Healthcare”
project. She recently chaired the AHIMA E-health Task Force, which
developed and promoted standards for privacy and security of personal
health information on the Internet, defined the role of HIM professionals
in E-health, and developed the vision of evolving HIM to e-HIM.
Over the years, she has served in the roles of chairperson or
member for numerous committees and task forces for AHIMA including
as a subcommittee chair on the Organizational Structure Task Force
and on the AHIMA Project Steering Committee responsible for creating
and implementing Communities of Practice. Ms. Fox has also served
on the Boards of the Chicago Women’s Healthcare Executive
Network and the Alumni Association of the School for New Learning
at DePaul University.
Author
of numerous articles, papers, and publications, including, “The
Art of Change Management to Lead Successful Projects”; “Bowen
Family Systems Theory: A Theoretical Framework for Organizational
Change Agents”; “Bowen Family Systems Theory As A
Framework for Consultants”; How to Prepare Your Facility
for the Computerized Patient Record; Measuring and Improving Productivity
in the Medical Record Department; Strategies for Medical Record
Management; The Administrator’s Guide to Evaluating Medical
Records and the Medical Record Department; and The Record That
Defends Its Friends.
Currently
she is a co-author of the “Hands-on Help” column that
appears monthly
in ADVANCE for Health Information Professionals.
Ms.
Fox received a BS in Medical Record Administration from the University
of Illinois in 1968, and a MA in Professional Studies: Concentration
in the Application of Family Systems Theory in organizations from
DePaul University in Chicago in 1992.

Patricia N. Thierry, MBA, RHIA, CCS
President
Ms.
Thierry is President of Care Communications. She is a results-oriented
change agent and has a strong background in Health Information
Management, business and systems development and implementation.
As
President, Patty oversees the implementation and delivery
of all CARE's
staffing and consulting services. She leads CARE'S
efforts to develop innovative solutions to both systems
and business challenges, and provides consultative services
in the areas of e-HIM, process reengineering and change
management.
Prior
to joining CARE's consulting team, Ms.
Thierry served in several capacities at the American Health Information
Management Association. Her most recent role was as the Vice President
of Professional Development where she was responsible for several
AHIMA product lines. She has also served as director of Health
Information Management for a large teaching hospital in New York
and held various HIM management positions, which included developing
a document imaging system and implementing HIM technology.
Ms.
Thierry is a graduate of Kean College of New Jersey with a BS
in Health Information Management and an MBA from Baruch College
of the City University of New York. She also completed a 6-month
leadership program and one year of individual coaching, which
focused on applying Bowen Family Systems Theory to the workplace.
Ms.
Thierry has held various AHIMA volunteer roles related to e-Health
and e-HIM. She co-authors a monthly column, "Hands-on Help"
in the publication ADVANCE For Health Information Professionals.

Roberta Peters, MS, RHIA
Health Information
Management Consultant, and Director of Business Development
Ms.
Peters has over 20 years experience managing all HIM activities
for individual hospitals and multi-hospital systems. Ms. Peters
has been affiliated with CARE since the early 1980s,
when she developed books and training manuals published by Care
Communications, Inc., provided direct consulting services, and
led seminars. She also has experience with HIM information systems
design and implementation. Ms. Peters is currently responsible
for business development at CARE, working with our
clients and alliance partners to respond to staffing and technology
needs.

Gwen Hughes
Director of E-HIM Consulting Services
Gwen
has over twenty-five years experience managing health information
in a variety of health care settings. She has authored numerous
articles and AHIMA practice briefs and is frequently quoted in
trade publications. Gwen is a frequent speaker around the country
on a variety of HIM related topics.

Barbara Black, MBA
Director of Human
Resources
Ms.
Black is responsible for all human resource functions for the
organization. Prior to joining CARE in 1997, she
gained over 12 years generalist experience in a variety
of work environments that included service, manufacturing and
consulting industries. Ms.
Black is a graduate of Indiana University with undergraduate and
graduate degrees in business, with an academic focus on Human
Resources.

Robert Janczak, CPA
Senior Vice President,
Finance & Administration
Mr.
Janczak is responsible for all business activities of the organization.
Prior to joining CARE in 1998, he was employed by
Siemens Medical Systems, Division of Siemens, AG for over 20 years.
His most recent position with Siemens was controller of the sales
organization for the Nuclear Medicine Division. Mr. Janczak is
a graduate of the University of Illinois with a degree in finance.
He became a CPA in 1986.

Harold Walsh
Vice President, Sales & Marketing
Harold
has over 15 years of sales and marketing experience within the
healthcare field including holding senior director level positions,
sales management, and national consulting roles with major health
systems, hospitals, a consulting firm, and physician groups. He
most recently functioned as a partner focusing on strategic alliances,
business development, and sales for a healthcare software start
up company.
